Slashdot | Canadian Telco Admits to Blocking Union's Website

Two things:

1. Why did Aliant not think of this during the Strike last year?

B. This proves that if they want to, an ISP can block any website that they wish, meaning that they could block access to any site (Kiddie Porn, Warez, Music Downloads) they see fit. hmmm, time to watch the lawsuits fly

Holy Wrestlemania Batman!!

It's as clear as the nose on my face

The WWE is looking to put me into the poor house.

Being released on DVD on November 1st (in the states, meaning probably January here, if only someone I knew had access to a canadian release date datebase...Hint, hint) is a new legends DVD on Jake "The Snake" Roberts as well as a Wrestlemania DVD Boxed set, numbers 1 to 21, as well as Sets 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and 16-20 at 69.99 a piece (US). On the 15th, it's a 3 DVD set called "Screwed: The Bret Hart Story"

When it comes to the Wrestlemania set, I already have 17-21 on DVD, if I can just pick up 16 somewhere (Ebay here I come) I'd only need 3 of the 4 sets. With the entire set retailing at $299 american, it might be worth my while.

OK, Let's try this again

I started this post a couple of nights ago, but had to stop as it was too fricken hot, but tonight is not too bad.

  • I got and finished the new Harry Potter book and all I can say is wow. I'll wait a bit for spoilers and that whole jazz, but everyone should read this book and get into the series. I will say the most dissapointing part of the whole book was the end, when I realized that there is only one left
  • I went and played Poker again last night at the Tide, ending up out about an hour and half in. My pocket 10's was no match for Jacks. I ended up up on the night by hitting 7's on one of the machines. About $150 for the night, damn good thing too, as Dad asked to borrow $100 this morning
  • I gotta work this weekend, as a Senior Support. It's been a while since I had to work a weekend. It's weird for Friday to be your wednesday.
  • As I'm writing this, My launchcast starts playing "What's the Differnence?" from Dr. Dre's "2001" album. and I realized that it's been a while since I listened to that CD. In my opinion, the best Hip Hop/Rap CD ever.
  • So the Muhammad Hassan thing has ended with UPN telling the WWE that they don't want him on their network. This thing has turned into one overreaction after another. Looks like the character is going to get killed off at the "Great American Bash" this sunday.
  • One of the big things in the news around here has been the city at first denying access to a "Gospel Concert" by one of the local churches that was supposed to take place at Ritchie Wharf, a local tourist destination. I don't have any problems with people going to play their music, my problem has been with the preaching. If I wanted to hear preaching, I'd go to church more then twice a year.
  • More Shitlist Willie!!!!
  • Last saturday I ordered 2 sets of 12 decks of Casino cards from the shopping channel. I figured I'd have them by the end of the week. I got an email on thursday, when they left the wearhouse.
  • I've been trying to get rid of the toolbar that is at the top of the page, although it dosen't seem to show up in IE. It's almost enough for me to drop the dokoffice.ca.tt address and just go back to the blogspot address. Although I finally got rid of the ad on the side.
  • CD Alert: Anna Nalick- Wreck of the Day. Another singer/songwriter album that has caught my attention with Breathe (2 AM), if you like that song, this album is for you.
That's it for now......leave a comment here or in the tagboard!!

More Hassan

OK, So since my last post, I've spent a lot of time having a very lively discussion on thesmartmarks.com forums about the Muhammad Hassan character. Now this might get rather lengthy and the non-wrestling fans in the room might want to go for a walk but I'm going to try to make my points.

One of the main things that I've been discussing has been the way that Hassan has been portrayed, the main knock against it being that there was no reason for his Arab heritage to be brought up, with the example of TNA's Sonjay Dutt being used to show that an Arab looking person can be used in wrestling without it becoming an issue. I think that is a case of apple's and oranges

Sonjay is a wrestler who is a member of the TNA X devision, who comes out and does some flips, Don West calls him the “playa from the Himalaya's” then he usually loses to a mid-card heel

Muhammad Hassan is a character who was born and raised in Detroit, who had a fairly normal life up until 9/11. After 9/11, he began to see that he was being treated differently, due to his looks and heritage. This pushed him deeper into his heritage, hence the wearing of the headdress and robes, along with his entrance music. He feels that he has been discriminated against due to people's fears of Arab's , when he was as victimized by 9/11 as much as they were.

See, there is no reason for TNA to bring up Sonjay's heritage, as it's not central to the character, such as it is, that he plays. As a matter of fact, I would be more offended if TNA out of nowhere, said “This is Sonjay Dutt, a great X division wrestler, oh and by the way, he's an Arab.”

I love the character that Hassan plays. I liked it when it came in as it was different from what a lot of people were playing. A character with convictions like he has, there are really good story lines that could last years, if written correctly. The best part of it is that he looks like he really believes what he says.

(For the record...Hassan is played by a Italian-American by the name of Mark Magnus)

Sometimes I don't understand what it is wrestling fans want, The WWE brings in guys that are one dimensional “Hosses” and they complain, so they bring in characters like Eugene (Who I think could be the “Hacksaw” Duggan of the next 10 years) Mordecai (who was another character if brought along correctly, could have had years of shelf life) and Hassan, and it's complain even louder.

Hassan reaction

It's taken over a week for it to hit but the WWE is back in the mainstream news.

Taped last monday, Muhammad Hassan was involved in an angle where his manager, Davari was in a match with The Undertaker, Hassan's opponent at the upcoming Great American Bash. Following the match, Undertaker was attacked by 5 men in ski-masks, choked out with wire followed by a Hussan Camel Clutch. After the beating, Davari was carried out held over the heads of the 5 men

This has been seen by a lot of people that follow WWE as the introduction of a "terror cell" to back up Hassan, who is looking like he is heading towards Summerslam to challenge Batista for the World Heavyweight Title. Other's like myself just saw it as a heel getting heat on a babyface heading towards a PPV match. No big deal, happens at least twice a month

Then on thursday morning, Bombs detonneted in London

All of a sudden, this is seen as a terrible idea and maybe something that should be deleated from airing later on that night. For reasons that is not known, neither WWE, UPN or The Score decided to delete it, instead opting to run a Parental Guidence crawl in each half of the show (For the record, SKY sports, The WWE broadcaster in England, did remove the angle)

The media has began lambasting WWE for doing this angle, most of them not meanting that it was taped 3 days before the London Bombings, check out some of the articles here. UPN has asked that Hassan not appear on this weeks edition of SMACKDOWN!. An interview taped last night that may appear on this weekend's edition of Velocity and can be seen here is all the reaction that the wwe show on it's own programs this week.

What I don't understand, and I think what the irony of this entire situation is, all of this reaction, the jump to the terrorism conclusion and the vitrol that the WWE crowds are showing as seen in that interview clip, is excatly what the character is talking about.

When Hassan first appeared, he was supposed to be a face. It was the people that made him a heel. And what was the reason? No one knows, they just knows that the crowd started booing the vingetes that appeared on RAW, knowing nothing about this character, other then the fact that he was arab-american. So this is used in the character, and other then the whole "I've never been beaten on RAW" thing, He's pretty much been right with what he's been saying. I think the media and the online wrestling fans are proving the entire point of this character, and don't know they are being worked.

If it was JBL and the cabinet that did this beat down, the exact same movements and senario, would this be in the New York Post?

Wireless Rocks

So I am writing this sitting at the kitchen table on my wireless connection with my new laptop :D It's working great, although it is a little weird that I get a better wireless connection from upstairs then I do in the kitchen. but oh well, as long as it's working. It took me about 3 hours to get it up and running with the software that I need and the battery time is great on it as well. I can't wait to show it off :D

Sorry about the new frame, it's from my domain company and it's in german. If I can get some time later on in the week, I'll get babelfish running to try to get rid of it. I've been thinking about going to dokoffice.com or dokoffice.ca, but I can't seem to find an easy and cheap way to make the conversion.

I'm back to early mornings at least for tomorrow, I just don't know what job I'll be doing. It seems to depend on if James makes it back from Boston. I'm sure that he'll tell the story on @.com when he does get back.

Harry Potter and Homeland security

Telegraph | News | Harry Potter and the ring of steel around book's American launch

The next Harry Potter is out next saturday night at 12:01 and the publisher is taking no chances on Security so that nothing leaks before hand.

I wonder what the trucker's employer thinks of him talking about being told not to stop for 10 hours? Gotta think that's against the law :D

My copy should be here that monday or tuesday..

That's Simply Incredible!!

So it's been a while since I brought the content so lets do some updating.

  • I really like Digg. It's like a tech news/lifestyle site that all the way user driven. If you like a story you "Digg" it and if it gets enough Diggs it's placed on the front page. It's another one of those finds from @.com. Digg also has it's own podcast called diggnation that goes over the weeks best stories. It's been added to TWIT as my weekly downloads.
  • Those downloads are going to get much easier with my latest purchase from e-bay. I have purchased a Laptop. I have been thinking about one for a while and then Tara got one from e-bay as well. I was pricing them from Dell and it just was not going to happen for a very long time. So I went to e-bay and saw this It's about a $2500 laptop that I picked up for about $850 Canadian. I was all over that. It should be here on Monday, so I'm going to head to walmart today with Matt Stewart and we're going to pick up a router so I can then be wireless through out the house and yard with it. I can't wait.
  • On the Poker scene, I played 2 nights this week. Wednesday night back at the King's, I ended up second in the first game and won the third game, putting me up about $35 for the night. On Thursday night I took in the tournament at The Tide. I got knocked out when we were at 4 tables, I just played more hands then I should have. Shawn Hubbard took town the tournament for a decent amount of cash (sidebets, just incase the ALC is reading this) as well as wings/fries/Onion Rings for 10 from the bar. This weekend is the regular Saturday night game at the King's followed by a possible appearance at the Tide's Sunday tournament. This time is for a HUGE but very nice Hold'em table top. If I won it, I don't know what I'd do with it, but it would be nice to have. Add all of that to my appearances on PokerMountain and PokerStars and I'm throwing a lot of cards lately.
  • Thursday night wasn't a total loss, as I ended up taking $180 out of the machines at Gators, with a row of red hot 7's. There's the money for my Router.
  • Another E-bay find. Missy Higgins- The Sound of White. It's a great Singer/songwriter album that I heard on my Launchcast station and it interested me enough to head to her official site. There was enough on the site to interest me in the record, so I got it off e-bay. One song that I love is called "Scar". Just a great album
That's about all that's going on. If you arrive here from the "Next Blog" button, feel free to sign the guest book or Tag board and check out some of the links on the side.
