RIP Eddie

Sunday, October 16, 2005

As I an sitting here listening to the Galaxie Hot Country Channel, I've just been thinking how good things have been lately.

Sure, the job that I thought I had turned out not to be, although I am doing it, somewhat and sort of, except for the next 2 weeks when I am training another new hire class, which I hate doing because it never turns out right and is frustrating and a pain in the ass, with the exception of, well, we'll get to that.

I'd like to continue this rant with, after looking at the last paragraph, I've had too much pepsi and Gilmore Girls today (Almost done the first season ,the second one is next followed by Firefly and Then veronica Mars.

so where was I? Oh yeah, new hire classes. They were a good thing when they got me off the phones, but I'm doing other things now and they are not a challenge. Hell, I get bored telling people how to create a dialer, and ICM and Freedom and everything else. I need new challenges.

Everyone at work is so stressed out and pissed off that people are starting to think about leaving. I was thinking about leaving, but with Sandy now, I can't imagine leaving where I am. It's amazing no matter how bad a day that I've been having, as soon as I see her, it makes everything all better. Yes, those of you that have known me a long time will be happy to know that I am in love, and don't care who knows it.

there I said it :p

New Harry Potter Trailer

Get it Here I cannot wait to see this Movie

Wednesday, September 14, 2005

I'm turning into willie..I'll see if I can take care of that

Yes, I know it's been a while since I updated. I've been really busy, and this has been the thing that has taken the brunt of it for awhile. Let's see if I can get you caught up.

  • I've got a new job. I FINALLY got my promotion to supervisor for the Aliant department at ICT. It's been a long time coming, but I've enjoyed it so far, and it will be nice to get back to it.
  • Speaking about that, I am on vacation, 12 days off till the 26th. I don't know what I'll be doing other then the Halifax trip where Carrie and Shawn are going to be heading to the Pearl Jam concert. Tara and I are going down for the trip, going to spending some time at the casino, then the split crow. I'm hoping that I run in to some of the gang from work, as Stewie and Bindy are heading down.
  • Poker wise, I've been running a bit of a hot streak. I won the Labor Day tournament at Dooly's in chatham. It was only 18 players, but I'll take all the 1st place finishes I can. Online, I've had a real good run getting my bank roll up to over $170,000. My game is really coming together, although it seems to be better at tournaments rather then home games. I think it's the competitive juices get flowing when I'm not playing against the same people. I love playing in the home games that I do, but the tournaments are where I shine.
  • OK, Carrie, here's the story. I can take the "single" checkmark away from my name. I am dating a young lady that I work with. Her name is Sandy and It's been a long time since I've been this happy. It's a little tough right now, as she lives in Doaktown, so the only time that we see each other is at work, but she's moving in to town in the next couple of months, either first of Oct or November. It shouldn't be long after that when we find out if she passes the "Carrie and Tara" test :P It's been a long time since I've found someone who I don't have to be "In character" for, if that makes any sense. Everything is a little brighter right now. OK, I'll stop now.. :D
  • I've actually bought CD's lately. As I speak, I'm listening to the new Rob Thomas cd "...Something to be", It's pop rockish, very matchbox20 ish, and I'm enjoying it. Anna Nalick's "Wreck of the Day" gets better every time I listen to it, and Sugarland's "twice the speed of life" has brought me back to some country music.
  • I'm having mixed feelings about buying the "ECW One Night Stand" DVD. On one hand I am a bit of a compleatist, looking to keep the collection going, but on the other, I've got a live version of the PPV, that is uncensored, with all the real music and chants for the night. I don't know. Willie will be happy to know that I did pick up hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy and WWE Vengeance from his store today, so I've done my part.
  • I've ordered a few t-shirts from a place called Jinx A place to pick up stuff for "Hackers, Gamers and Geeks" I just like their stuff, especially this, this and this. I thought this was cool too. Diggnation is a podcast that goes over the biggest stories from Digg.com They always have interesting tech stories and just general stuff. I've put a link to the stories that I've Dugg on the sidebar. Feel free to check it out. I'm also going to place a link to Jinx on the sidebar.
That's about all that's been going on. I hope to update more as we go on. and remember it's hockey season starting this saturday night and Life 101.1 is going to be doing live coverage of Timberwolves games both on their radio station and website. Be sure to check it out by going to the webpage and clicking listen Live. and GO T-Wolves!!

You scored 92% in wrestlingosity, brother!

Technically one of the greatest performances, ever, just lacking that
little something extra to take it into all-time level. This was a mat

Pro-wrestling trivia enthusiasts will be studying your work for a while to come.

I know, I know

  • I know it's been a while, but Work has been a very busy place lately. Our Head trainer has been moved to ottawa for another client for 8 weeks, which in and of itself is an't bad, but everyone else is on vacation over the past couple of weeks which is the reason I've been pulling a whole bunch of Training and Senior Support hours. It's not too bad as soon as a schedule is figured out. My schedule changed 7 times in 5 minutes earlier today
  • Played poker at the tide, the tournament lasted less then an hour, then I sat in a couple of cash games. Both cash games, I got beat by 4 of a kind, Aces and then sevens.
  • Went to the KOA campground last friday night, with Carrie, Jess, John, Tara, Dana and the kids, it was a great time with Smores and a campfire. Just a hang out night, something that we needed at the time.
  • Another LJ that I read is here. Kyla is someone that I've known a long time and it's an interesting read. Not a tech blog or anything, just a friend blog.

Two things:

1. Why did Aliant not think of this during the Strike last year?

B. This proves that if they want to, an ISP can block any website that they wish, meaning that they could block access to any site (Kiddie Porn, Warez, Music Downloads) they see fit. hmmm, time to watch the lawsuits fly

Holy Wrestlemania Batman!!

It's as clear as the nose on my face

The WWE is looking to put me into the poor house.

Being released on DVD on November 1st (in the states, meaning probably January here, if only someone I knew had access to a canadian release date datebase...Hint, hint) is a new legends DVD on Jake "The Snake" Roberts as well as a Wrestlemania DVD Boxed set, numbers 1 to 21, as well as Sets 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and 16-20 at 69.99 a piece (US). On the 15th, it's a 3 DVD set called "Screwed: The Bret Hart Story"

When it comes to the Wrestlemania set, I already have 17-21 on DVD, if I can just pick up 16 somewhere (Ebay here I come) I'd only need 3 of the 4 sets. With the entire set retailing at $299 american, it might be worth my while.

OK, Let's try this again

I started this post a couple of nights ago, but had to stop as it was too fricken hot, but tonight is not too bad.

  • I got and finished the new Harry Potter book and all I can say is wow. I'll wait a bit for spoilers and that whole jazz, but everyone should read this book and get into the series. I will say the most dissapointing part of the whole book was the end, when I realized that there is only one left
  • I went and played Poker again last night at the Tide, ending up out about an hour and half in. My pocket 10's was no match for Jacks. I ended up up on the night by hitting 7's on one of the machines. About $150 for the night, damn good thing too, as Dad asked to borrow $100 this morning
  • I gotta work this weekend, as a Senior Support. It's been a while since I had to work a weekend. It's weird for Friday to be your wednesday.
  • As I'm writing this, My launchcast starts playing "What's the Differnence?" from Dr. Dre's "2001" album. and I realized that it's been a while since I listened to that CD. In my opinion, the best Hip Hop/Rap CD ever.
  • So the Muhammad Hassan thing has ended with UPN telling the WWE that they don't want him on their network. This thing has turned into one overreaction after another. Looks like the character is going to get killed off at the "Great American Bash" this sunday.
  • One of the big things in the news around here has been the city at first denying access to a "Gospel Concert" by one of the local churches that was supposed to take place at Ritchie Wharf, a local tourist destination. I don't have any problems with people going to play their music, my problem has been with the preaching. If I wanted to hear preaching, I'd go to church more then twice a year.
  • More Shitlist Willie!!!!
  • Last saturday I ordered 2 sets of 12 decks of Casino cards from the shopping channel. I figured I'd have them by the end of the week. I got an email on thursday, when they left the wearhouse.
  • I've been trying to get rid of the toolbar that is at the top of the page, although it dosen't seem to show up in IE. It's almost enough for me to drop the dokoffice.ca.tt address and just go back to the blogspot address. Although I finally got rid of the ad on the side.
  • CD Alert: Anna Nalick- Wreck of the Day. Another singer/songwriter album that has caught my attention with Breathe (2 AM), if you like that song, this album is for you.
That's it for now......leave a comment here or in the tagboard!!

More Hassan

OK, So since my last post, I've spent a lot of time having a very lively discussion on thesmartmarks.com forums about the Muhammad Hassan character. Now this might get rather lengthy and the non-wrestling fans in the room might want to go for a walk but I'm going to try to make my points.

One of the main things that I've been discussing has been the way that Hassan has been portrayed, the main knock against it being that there was no reason for his Arab heritage to be brought up, with the example of TNA's Sonjay Dutt being used to show that an Arab looking person can be used in wrestling without it becoming an issue. I think that is a case of apple's and oranges

Sonjay is a wrestler who is a member of the TNA X devision, who comes out and does some flips, Don West calls him the “playa from the Himalaya's” then he usually loses to a mid-card heel

Muhammad Hassan is a character who was born and raised in Detroit, who had a fairly normal life up until 9/11. After 9/11, he began to see that he was being treated differently, due to his looks and heritage. This pushed him deeper into his heritage, hence the wearing of the headdress and robes, along with his entrance music. He feels that he has been discriminated against due to people's fears of Arab's , when he was as victimized by 9/11 as much as they were.

See, there is no reason for TNA to bring up Sonjay's heritage, as it's not central to the character, such as it is, that he plays. As a matter of fact, I would be more offended if TNA out of nowhere, said “This is Sonjay Dutt, a great X division wrestler, oh and by the way, he's an Arab.”

I love the character that Hassan plays. I liked it when it came in as it was different from what a lot of people were playing. A character with convictions like he has, there are really good story lines that could last years, if written correctly. The best part of it is that he looks like he really believes what he says.

(For the record...Hassan is played by a Italian-American by the name of Mark Magnus)

Sometimes I don't understand what it is wrestling fans want, The WWE brings in guys that are one dimensional “Hosses” and they complain, so they bring in characters like Eugene (Who I think could be the “Hacksaw” Duggan of the next 10 years) Mordecai (who was another character if brought along correctly, could have had years of shelf life) and Hassan, and it's complain even louder.

Hassan reaction

It's taken over a week for it to hit but the WWE is back in the mainstream news.

Taped last monday, Muhammad Hassan was involved in an angle where his manager, Davari was in a match with The Undertaker, Hassan's opponent at the upcoming Great American Bash. Following the match, Undertaker was attacked by 5 men in ski-masks, choked out with wire followed by a Hussan Camel Clutch. After the beating, Davari was carried out held over the heads of the 5 men

This has been seen by a lot of people that follow WWE as the introduction of a "terror cell" to back up Hassan, who is looking like he is heading towards Summerslam to challenge Batista for the World Heavyweight Title. Other's like myself just saw it as a heel getting heat on a babyface heading towards a PPV match. No big deal, happens at least twice a month

Then on thursday morning, Bombs detonneted in London

All of a sudden, this is seen as a terrible idea and maybe something that should be deleated from airing later on that night. For reasons that is not known, neither WWE, UPN or The Score decided to delete it, instead opting to run a Parental Guidence crawl in each half of the show (For the record, SKY sports, The WWE broadcaster in England, did remove the angle)

The media has began lambasting WWE for doing this angle, most of them not meanting that it was taped 3 days before the London Bombings, check out some of the articles here. UPN has asked that Hassan not appear on this weeks edition of SMACKDOWN!. An interview taped last night that may appear on this weekend's edition of Velocity and can be seen here is all the reaction that the wwe show on it's own programs this week.

What I don't understand, and I think what the irony of this entire situation is, all of this reaction, the jump to the terrorism conclusion and the vitrol that the WWE crowds are showing as seen in that interview clip, is excatly what the character is talking about.

When Hassan first appeared, he was supposed to be a face. It was the people that made him a heel. And what was the reason? No one knows, they just knows that the crowd started booing the vingetes that appeared on RAW, knowing nothing about this character, other then the fact that he was arab-american. So this is used in the character, and other then the whole "I've never been beaten on RAW" thing, He's pretty much been right with what he's been saying. I think the media and the online wrestling fans are proving the entire point of this character, and don't know they are being worked.

If it was JBL and the cabinet that did this beat down, the exact same movements and senario, would this be in the New York Post?

Wireless Rocks

So I am writing this sitting at the kitchen table on my wireless connection with my new laptop :D It's working great, although it is a little weird that I get a better wireless connection from upstairs then I do in the kitchen. but oh well, as long as it's working. It took me about 3 hours to get it up and running with the software that I need and the battery time is great on it as well. I can't wait to show it off :D

Sorry about the new frame, it's from my domain company and it's in german. If I can get some time later on in the week, I'll get babelfish running to try to get rid of it. I've been thinking about going to dokoffice.com or dokoffice.ca, but I can't seem to find an easy and cheap way to make the conversion.

I'm back to early mornings at least for tomorrow, I just don't know what job I'll be doing. It seems to depend on if James makes it back from Boston. I'm sure that he'll tell the story on @.com when he does get back.

That's Simply Incredible!!

So it's been a while since I brought the content so lets do some updating.

  • I really like Digg. It's like a tech news/lifestyle site that all the way user driven. If you like a story you "Digg" it and if it gets enough Diggs it's placed on the front page. It's another one of those finds from @.com. Digg also has it's own podcast called diggnation that goes over the weeks best stories. It's been added to TWIT as my weekly downloads.
  • Those downloads are going to get much easier with my latest purchase from e-bay. I have purchased a Laptop. I have been thinking about one for a while and then Tara got one from e-bay as well. I was pricing them from Dell and it just was not going to happen for a very long time. So I went to e-bay and saw this It's about a $2500 laptop that I picked up for about $850 Canadian. I was all over that. It should be here on Monday, so I'm going to head to walmart today with Matt Stewart and we're going to pick up a router so I can then be wireless through out the house and yard with it. I can't wait.
  • On the Poker scene, I played 2 nights this week. Wednesday night back at the King's, I ended up second in the first game and won the third game, putting me up about $35 for the night. On Thursday night I took in the tournament at The Tide. I got knocked out when we were at 4 tables, I just played more hands then I should have. Shawn Hubbard took town the tournament for a decent amount of cash (sidebets, just incase the ALC is reading this) as well as wings/fries/Onion Rings for 10 from the bar. This weekend is the regular Saturday night game at the King's followed by a possible appearance at the Tide's Sunday tournament. This time is for a HUGE but very nice Hold'em table top. If I won it, I don't know what I'd do with it, but it would be nice to have. Add all of that to my appearances on PokerMountain and PokerStars and I'm throwing a lot of cards lately.
  • Thursday night wasn't a total loss, as I ended up taking $180 out of the machines at Gators, with a row of red hot 7's. There's the money for my Router.
  • Another E-bay find. Missy Higgins- The Sound of White. It's a great Singer/songwriter album that I heard on my Launchcast station and it interested me enough to head to her official site. There was enough on the site to interest me in the record, so I got it off e-bay. One song that I love is called "Scar". Just a great album
That's about all that's going on. If you arrive here from the "Next Blog" button, feel free to sign the guest book or Tag board and check out some of the links on the side.

TV News

OK..Let me say that this is my second time writing this, as I was using "Blog this" and out of nowhere my firefox crashed. It was a pretty good rant as well.

So on June 30, Canadians will no longer get their MTV. It's a complicated story, starting with a company out of Vancouver (Craig Broadcasting) getting a digital Television license from the CRTC for a "Youth Oriented lifestyle" channel that somehow morphed into "MTV Canada" when Craig cut a deal with Viacom. Someone wasn't happy with that, Moses wasn't happy. That's Moses Znaimer, the guy who has brought you CHUM-TV, owners of the MUCH channels (MUCH, MUCH MORE MUSIC, MUCH LOUD, MUCH VIBE, and I think MUCH MORE RETRO is still on the go). CHUM thought that MTV didn't match with the license they were up against. Somewhere along the line, they also launched MTV 2.

Well, eventually Craig decided that it wasn't "fiscally responsible to continue the MTV experiment" (translation "We lost a pisspot of money and need a bail out"), all of a sudden, CHUM wasn't complaining anymore, because the now owned their competition, buying MTV and MTV2.

Viacom wasn't real happy with this, as it is a little knows fact that MuchMusic does have a US video station. So that ended up with an agreement to end the MTV name in Canada.

What does that leave us with? Razer, a channel that is filling it's schedule with reruns of "Dawson's Creek" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" along with it being a dumping ground for CHUM properties like "America's top Model" and a Canadian version of "Jackass". I'm a little disappointed with losing the "MTV News" specials and new episodes of "True life" but I think the more interesting part is what's going to happen to MTV 2.

It's going to become "PunchMuch" "Canada's first fully automated, all-request music video service" where people are going to be able to request videos with their text messaging cellphones. I'm thinking we're going to be seeing alot of "Simple Plan" and "Good Charlotte" videos but the most interesting thing for me,being the bit of a geek that I am, is if it's all automated and all request, how are they going to get their CANCON requirements that I am sure that they are going to need?

Both these channels launch on June 30

So, you want to shoot do you Cowboy?

-OK, The weather is starting to really piss me off. We have one really nice day followed by a week of just terrible stuff. It's summer people, and while I'm not a big fan of 35-40 degree days, a little sun would be nice.

-I did something that I haven't done in a really long time. I bought a pay per view. It was ECW One Night Stand, and let me tell you it would have been a bargain at half the price. Great matches, although the Benoit/Eddie match did leave something to be desired. The one thing that it had more then anything was emotion. From the opening when Joey Styles came to the ring to the ass kicking of Eric Bischoff by the ECW group, it was worth it. I hope there is more ECW on the way.

-I've also seen The Road Warrior DVD, that chronicles the career, lives and death of what I think is the best tag team I've ever seen. I know that is supposedly sacrilege for a Canadian wrestling fan to say that, with the Hart Foundation right there, but I guess it's the same reason that I was always more of a Shawn Michaels fan then a Bret Hart one, but that's a rant for another time. So far I've just made it through the main program, with a disc and 1/2 full of extras left to go. They were just a pair of Badasses that looked like they could kick their ass. Face Paint and spikes, "Snack on Danger, Dine on Death", What a Rush. A power tag team is just what the WWE needs right now, but with Triple H making sure no one looks better then him, it's not going to happen.

They took a lot of what made The Road Warriors great and made Goldberg with it. Batista could very well have done that, but I have a distinct feeling that the Hell in a Cell match at Vengeance is going to end with Triple H and the gold once again.

-Went and saw Batman Begins last night. It was the best "Comic Book" movie I've seen and that's coming from a guy that liked the Spiderman Movies. It was what an origin movie should always be, tells the story of a guy and why he is doing what he is doing. Everyone must see this movie.

Stuff and things

-Remember that run of luck that I was having..no longer. I can't seem to get a good run of cards. Maybe it's a good thing that I can't play for real money online

-Went up to see the Grand Prix Wrestling show in Sunny Corner on Thursday night. It was a great show with 4 great matches and a OK main event. I did find it amazing that people did not know who these guys were, then ended up cheering or Booing 5 minutes later. I notice on the Maritime Wrestling that there are shows coming up in Neguac and the Baie. Hopefully there will be a show in the city soon.

Take me to your Machines

So another one of my friends..Actually another 2 of my friends are married. It was a great day for Shawn and Amy and they are very happy, and I'm happy for them. I even got all the music right :P

The reception was a blast, as it seemed like the whole crew was there. But the big part of story happened on Thursday night.

After the rehearsal and decorating of the hall, we decided to throw a few cards around, where I got my 2nd ever 4 tens, 2 in the pocket and first 2 cards on the flop..I ended up knocking 2 guys out. Shawn and I played for a bit then we decided to just take the pot and split it up so we could head down to dooly's

We got there and I decided to throw a little bit of money in the machines. I took $80 out. I sang a couple of songs, then I threw in a few more dollars and after just trying to get away from them by making a few max bets...got 5 armadillos for $125. So I pulled that out. After a while, Derrick goes over and I join him and decide to throw some more away. once again just trying to kill it off..5 oil wells on a max bet..$225 later it's time to go home. People are starting to look for my horseshoe :D. Lucky in cards, not so much in love I guess.

It didn't take long to spend. Breakfast out, a few rounds at the reception, got some groceries and paid some bills, and I got enough for some cards tonight. Maybe the lucky streak will continue

No Pearl Jam tickets for me, Tara and I tried to get some but they sold out in less then 2 hours. Looks like I'll be making the trip just to the casino that night. Oh well..

Star Wars Fanboys...Light yourself on Fire!!!

Mirror.co.uk - News - Showbiz News - LIGHT-SABRE DUEL PUTS TWO IN HOSPITAL

If this is not the most idiotic thing I've ever read...I don't know what else to say...

A good thing I can say for G4

I've said it before and I'll say it again, It's great to be a Twit.

A follower of the guys over at This Week In Tech that is. The old Screen Savers gang is back together again and it's a gread download every week. It runs about an hour each week, and it'sa ll the technology news and Screen Savorish stuff that "Attack of the Show" is not.

That being said I did enjoy the G4 coverage of E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) and the launch of both the X-box 360 and PS3. I'm a big PS2 fan, but I am strongly looking a the X-box 360

BTW: I've just finished downloading Systm...haven't watched it yet. The host Kevin Rose is leaving G4 to do more stuff like this, which is great for him. There is more on Kevin and Systm and that stuff here
James says it better then I ever could.

Candido

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

-If 2 years ago, I had read on a message board that Chris Candido had passed away, it would have not been that much of a surprise. Candido had the reputation for being a major partyer on the wrestling screen, messing around with drugs and fast living that made other people in the dressing rooms of WWF, and ECW, where drug abuse was an everyday thing, cringe.

In the past two years however, Candido had cleaned himself. He looked great in the ring, winning himself a job with TNA with a great IMPACT match against AJ Styles. Both in the ring and as a manager for The Naturals, he looked like he was having fun.

Last Sunday, He suffer a broken leg and needed surgery to attach screws to his ankle during a throwaway cage match on the TNA LOCKDOWN pay-per-view. I watched that match last night. No official cause of death yet, although both a blood clot or a staph infection are both rumored causes.

He was a lot of fun to watch in the ring, and was a true Natural, and I think that's the best tribute I could give.

-I really haven't had much to say lately, I guess it's because nothing much has changed for me. I'm still working the same job, doing the same things. I'm having a lot of fun but nothing more then that. I haven't heard about the new Supervisor job yet, but should hear one way or another next week. My much maligned personal life may be looking up (More on that later) MAybe the times be a changing

Saturday Poker Night

-A saturday night down at the King's was a poker night. I won 2 out of the 4 games, putting me up $40 for the night. I just kept getting the pocket cards and hit a couple of straights when I needed them. in about 2 weeks, it's another night at the King's for a birthday celebration. I can't wait

Join FireFox...Be one of us :D

-There is 2.6 million people using Firefox now. No popup's and a bunch of plug in's. Tabbed browsing is great. Actually the story is that there were that many people viewing the firefox website...but they all downloaded..I'm sure :D

-One blog I always take a look at is Raging Red. She's always got something interesting to say.

-So I went to the poker tournament on sunday. I ended up in about the 52nd place or so. I had 4 10's on the third hand of the day that I didn't get anyone to bite on, and had a king high straight get beat by a full house, so just bad luck all the way around. Made most of my money back in side games, but it was for the experience, that's what I'm telling myself :D

-I also picked up a couple of Games for the PS2, the World Championship Poker the Link pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. I also picked up Pride, it's an older game that's missing a career mode, but is a great game none the less.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow

-I really don't want my Vacation to end. I stopped in for a few minutes tonight and just got an overwhelming sense of Dread. Usually after being off this long, I'm ready for a return. Not this time.

-Spent some time playing cards at the Kenny's last night. I won one hand, the one we played for fun. The ones we played for $5, first one out, first time and 3rd second time. I've decided to enter a tournament in April in Moncton. It should be interesting.

-For the few wrestling fans that still come around here, I saw the most interesting interview today. It is Jim Cornette and Bobby Heenen, sitting around and telling stories in a Ring of Honor Straight Shooting tape. There is nobody like Bobby Heenen, and Cornette ain't that far behind. It's available at your favorite Wrestling Torrent site :D

Walmart Findings

So I went to walmart to pick up a few Groceries and got some great deals:

  • A 500 Chip Bicycle Poker set, with 2 decks of cards. The chips are not the best quality..but it's a decent little set for $25
  • 12 355ml Bottles of Pepsi for like $5
  • Welcome to Death Row A documentary look in to Death Row records from the people who were there. I've seen this on Much a few times and it was very interesting.
I've also picked up a couple of things on e-bay, WWF InVasion and Beyond the Mat Barry Blaustein's movie that opens your eyes about the things that really go on with the Wrestlers behind the scenes. Between that and the Timberwolves tickets I got today, I spent a Shite load of cash on my first day on Vacation :D

Vacation Afternoon

-It was bound to happen. The Telegraph Journal has a front page story about the "fad" of Texas Hold Em, basically outing bars in the Saint John area that have been running poker tournaments. The Atlantic Lottery Commission is threatening to pull VLT's out of any bar that lets people play. That will last right up until they can figure out a way to get a cut. I'm not usually one for Goverment regulation, but they should allow the bars to run games, for smaller prizes, to make up for some of the money lost to the smoking ban

-Speaking of Poker, played a couple of games last night at Carrie's. The first game didn't last long, as John played power poker with decent hands, leaving me with second place. The second one lasted longer, with me getting knocked out first to Tara's miracle queen on the River...I was the dealer for a while, then decided to buy back in for 5 bucks and ended up taking second place again, ending up $5 bucks down for the night.

-Oh, yeah I'm on vacation.

-The Times and Transcript's Sleuth is reporting that the next big concert for the moncton Coliseum may be Pearl Jam...just a second, I think I just heard willie fall to the floor

Saturday Morning Cartoon Blogging

-I was planning on sleeping in this morning, however I was woken up by work calling....It my day off..leave me alone

-I've downloaded both 50Cent's album "The Masscure" and The Game's "The Documentry". While I enjoyed 50's; I really think that the Game is the best Hip hop album I've heard since Dr. Dre's "2001". When it comes to the beef now between 50 and his former Protege It is a bit disrespectful for Game to take the side of others against his Clique. He had to know what was going to happen after that. I guess the question is if he thinks he is big enough to go out alone. This will hurt "The Documentry" as he mentions G-unit in most of the songs and 50 is all over the album, so I can't see many more singles or videos coming from it.

-The Timberwolves have their last home game tonight and it is a must win against Campbellton. The Wolves are 1 point down and tonight is the Tigers last game. Here's how it breaks down:

a win= Timberwolves Championship
a Loss= tigers Championship
a Timberwolves win in OT=a tie=A timberwolves championship (Tiebreaker is more wins)
A tie=Tigers Championship

Should be an interesting night in the Civic Center

-After the Game, I'll be trying to get back me rightful place as Trivia Champion. Watch out..it's coming :D

It's True..It's Damn True

The Streak is Over

Last night, for the first time in a very long time; I lost a game of Trivial Purcuit. Carrie did mount a comeback to take the win. It is something for which I don't know of my psyche will ever recover.

She also beat me in a game of Texas Hold Em. No money exchanged hands, but after knocking Willie and Tara out, I was defeated with an Ace on the river.

I did make a comeback beating willie in a second game so the night was not a total blowout. Now, If I can just get them to play for 10 bucks :D

I ain't got to promote it for you to know Dok is off the benches

- Training is almost over for this time around and I have never been confused about so much that I understand about in all my life. It's going to be interesting to start HSI on thursday, so I guess we are not going to have to wait long to see what's going on. High Speed seems to be easier to do as there is only 3 differnet ways things can end, escelated, fixed or Tech. The Repair part is the confusing part, using different programs and things of that nature, just the fact that we are doing more then internet; working on phones. Turns out at 11pm, Aliant pretty much shuts down and we take over.

-I booked my vacation today, starting on March 12 till the 18, but if the schedule stays the same, I won't go back untill the 21st with regular days off. I'm looking forward to it, as there's something that we're working on for that weekend, but I guess we'll see.

MEDIA RELATED RANT

So this week we saw that the "Unholy Alliance" (Stolen from Primetime Sports) of Bell Globalmedia and Rogers had decided to team up to win the bid for the Vancouver/Whistler Olympics in 2010, oh yeah they also got the 2012 Summer games, although I'm not sure they realize that yet, as it was in almost the last paragraph of the sportsnet story online.

For those of you that don't know, Bell Globalmedia owns CTV, TSN, Comedy, CTV Newsnet, OLN, ESPN Classic Canada, Bell Expressvu and the Sympatico internet service, among other properties including ATV and ASN in the atlantic provinces. Bell owns so many Digital networks that they have one (Talk TV) that is still showing repeats of the last original programming they had (The Chatroom) 3 years after the show went off the air!!

Rogers is the same Rogers that provides Cell phones, Cable Tv and Internet. They also own the Toronto Blue Jays and the newly renamed Rogers Center (Skydome). As for media, they are mostly sports oriented with the FAN radio stations and the Rogers Sportsnet channels.

These 2 companys could not agree that the sun was going to rise before they decided that they could agree on the fact that it was a good idea to screw the CBC out of one of the few "sure-bets" in canadian television, The Olympics.

It reportally cost the alliance $153 million dollars to get those two games (The 2006 and 2008 games will still air on CBC). It's already been announced that the Opening and Closing ceremonies along with the medal rounds will be on CTV with the rest of the games being spread around the digital networks, with the 4 sportsnet stations (East, Ontario, Central and Pacific) being dedicated to specific sports (East= all baseball, Ontario=all track and Field, Central= all Gymastics, Pacific=all soccer would be the way I'd do it for the summer games) and the others getting whatever's left over.

All of that is a lead in to this, What if this successful bid at the olympics by Rogers/Bell gives them the confidence to go after what may be the holy grail of canadian televison

Hockey Night in Canada

Now on the eve of the NHL canceling the season, it may sound a little weird, but if you think about it, it's not that far fetched.

The NHL contract with the CBC has three years left on it; regardless of when the next season is. So when this thing is all over, one of the first things that the NHL will need to look at is the next contract. The League is going to need to bring some money in, as sponcership will be down after this labour situation. Rogers/Bell is in a much better place to overpay for the rights to the NHL, and can offer more eyes.

Right now, CBC offers a doubleheader every saturday night with 2 Tripleheaders a season, along with full coverage of the Playoffs. CBC does not have much of a Digital Presence, with Newsworld and Country Canada, a channel that Bell does not make available on it's 2nd tier channels.

Lets use this as a template

Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada: CTV
National Games on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights: TSN
Regional Games on Monday Night, Wednesday and friday nights: Rogers Sportsnet
Radio games on the FAN radio network
The First 2 rounds of the Playoffs get regional coverage on Sportsnet with the Confrence finals nationally on TSN
The Stanley Cup finals nationally on CTV

What would you go with?

-The Best part of of Saturday night is it didn't cost much for the evening. I won $100 bucks in a draw at work. So my night was paid for

-Yes it's true, Jamie (My Brother) is home and now working again at ICT

-Went to Walmart on Sunday and was very impressed. Hope to have a few dollars to pick up a couple of things in the next couple of weeks

-For tech stuff, don't forget to check out @.com

- New Album to listen to: The Game: The Documentry

-Things are getting interesting at work with new contracts...I'm sure I am going to have some new stories soon

-I got my Nightmare Game from E-bay as well...Can't wait to get the game together to have a game.

MSN Problems

So MSN seems to be having some problems lately..so anyone trying to get a hold of me, your best bet may be gmail (cdlawrence@(g)mail.com) or on Yahoo Messenger (dok2001). I've been trying to check my hotmail as I know there are a few people still sending some stuff to it.

I've installed the latest version of Trillion on to my PC and am not as happy with it as I was the last version. Most of the Plugin's and skins have not been updated and are now broken. I've been opening up Yahoo more often as well as it seems to handle Webcam better, and I've got a few friends who for some reason want to see me while we chat...weirdo's :D. Yahoo is also nice as I can open my Launchcast Radio station..the same way you can, from my link section (/cheap plug)

Updated MSN to 7 as well, the little I've used it, I was not that impressed. A few more eye candy things but that's about it.

As I am sitting here..CNN is reporting that Johnny Carson has passed away. Yet another legend has died. I was watching his farewell show and remember it like it was yesterday. It's too bad, that the good ones keep leaving us.

RIP: Johnny...Here's a golf swing for you...

Counting Blue Cars

  • Well, I'm glad I stayed with Blogger as it seems as if LJ has had some problems in the past couple of days
  • I got my new MP3 player and after figuring out how to use it (Thanks to Moose) I'm amazed that more people don't have them. Mine is a 256MB one that can fit about 2 1/2 hours of music and has a battery life of over 10 hours. It's also an FM Radio and a voice recorder. It got it's first road test today when I decided it was nice enough to go for a walk. The sound is great and it's not too heavy. Not to meantion that it's great to be listening to Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" when walking down a almost deserted road
  • It's been super busy at work lately but at least it's making the nights go quicker. I think there is a shift bid coming up and I'm hoping to keep my weekends off. I've taken to this Monday to Friday workweek.
  • I'm in the midst of watching New Years Revolution now, just making it through the Tag title match and Women's Title match. Talk about the walking wounded. I'm sure I'll have a rant about Triple H once I watch the Main Event.
  • I like this Launchcast Plus Player the more and more I use it.
  • Walmart opens on Jan 25. I can't wait to take a look at thier Home Entertainment section. It seems like one stop shopping. It will be a couple of weeks before I take a look as I'll probably wait for the hubbub to die off a little bit
  • Song that should have done better then it did: Jason Mraz- Curbside Prophet. People keep talking about wanting something different and one thing it is is different.

G4 Drops TechTV Name

Slashdot | G4 Drops TechTV Name

Mom's Site

Mom finally get her site up as well, you can check it out here

Frickin Opera House

So against my better judgement, I decided to go out to the Opera House with some of the people from work for a few drinks tonight. It reminded me why I hate the place.

There was nobody around, the music was terrible. I thought I had taken a wrong turn to the Rockin Rodeo, as he played country most of the night, and while I don't mind country (I'm listening to Rascal Flats right now) It's not what I want to hear when I go out to the club. As I said to one of the guys I went with, "I'm like the cop one day before retirement, I'm getting too old for this shit."

I had a lot more fun just hanging out at Mike's, talking sports with the gang that was around there. Ah well, I won my night on the machines with $20 to spare so I guess I can't complain too much

A wrestling update

It's been a while since I did a wrestling update. I guess the reason for that it I really didn't have that much to say. I guess I'm just getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over againon RAW, as it dosen't matter what happens, Triple H is always going to come out on top. I've always been a big Maven fan so for him to be getting a bit more TV time is nice to see. Kane's return is also a welcome site. I think that it's time for Hunter to step aside and get off TV for a while, to allow guys like Batista amd Orton to get away from under his shadow.

As for Smackdown, I'm not a big fan of anyone over there with the exception of Undertaker. Everyone else seems to be "Second Rate" RVD does not give a damn anymore and Rey Mysterio does the smae match every week. I thought they were on the right track with Paul London, but his fued with Billy Kidman seems to have been quickly squashed.

What song from 2004 are you?

1985 by Bowling for Soup

"Where's the mini-skirt made of snakeskin?
And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen?
When did reality become T.V.?
What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows?"

You took the bitter with the sweet in 2004 - and kept laughing.

Gift Card Bonanza

- So I went and spent my Giftcards today, Picking up The Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides again, as well as a couple of other DVD's involving the guys on that show, Ron White and Bill Engvall. I've already watched the Blue Collar one and Ron white, and my side are hurting, it was so funny.

It's New Year, Baby

- So We've made it through yet another holiday season, wrapping with the now somewhat traditional Kenny New Years Party.

I guess christmas first. Jamie made it home, so that was nice. I got cash for my grandparents, a jogging suit from mom and dad along with a $25 gift card from CD Plus. It was a smaller christmas, but was fun.

I worked through the week inbetween Christmas and New Years, fighting a hell of a Flu along the way, but made it to the party last night. It was a great time, pics can be found at http://spaces.msn.com/members/grumpy77 which is Carrie's newest Blog I guess. The night was complete with a couple of phone calls from out west. Made me miss some people a lot, but in the year to come, I'm going to take care of that.
